Check-in

Our check-in counters are located in the entrance hall of the main terminal building.
due to the compact nature of our airport, the check-in process has the advantage of being particularly efficient. however, in order to ensure your journey is stress-free, we ask you to leave sufficient time for check in and in particular to respect the latest check-in time, which is 45 minutes prior to departure.

Items allowed in hand luggage

Liquids may be carried in small quantities, only in containers holding no more than 100ml each. These should all be placed in a single, transparent, resealable (zip-lock) plastic bag (holding no more than 1 litre per passenger) See picture opposite.

All liquids in excess of 100ml must be transported in your checked luggage (prohibited in hand luggage).

The following are treated as liquids: water and other drinks; soups; syrups; perfumes; gels, including hair gels and shower gels; pastes, including toothpaste; mascara; creams; lotions and oils; sprays; the contents of pressurised containers, including shaving foam, other foams and deodorants; semi-liquid mixtures; other items of similar consistency. Medicines and products that are essential for your journey to meet special dietary requirements, including baby food, may be carried in the cabin. You may be asked to provide supporting documentation.

Liquids (drinks, perfumes, etc.) purchased in duty-free shops in the EU located in the area beyond boarding pass inspection points or on-board aircraft operated by an EU airline are still allowed. Do not open the special sealed plastic bag containing your purchases until you reach your final destination (in order to pass inspection points when in transit through one or more other EU airports). These liquids may be carried in addition to the quantities carried in the sealed plastic bags described above.

Please note that all liquids must be taken out of your hand baggage before PROCEEDING through security!

Items forbidden in luggage

For security reasons, it is prohibited to transport any of the following articles in your baggage:

– Camping gas cylinders and soda cartridges
– Full diving cylinders and lamps
– Petrol and alcohol over 70°
– Paints and solvents
– Car batteries
– Fireworks
– Chemicals for household use and poisons of all kinds

The airlines, tour operators, travel agencies and the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) (OFAC) will be happy to provide further information upon request.

Proceeding through airport security

In order to ensure smooth passage through security at the airport, please present the following items separately:

– Any liquids you are carrying
– Your jacket and/or coat.
– Laptops and other electric/electronic devices (including cameras, mobile phones, tablets, etc.) removed from your hand luggage.

These items will be checked separately.

Customs & Immigration

Sion is an international airport where customs formalities can be carried out at any time. This means that you can arrive from or depart for another country located within or outside the Schengen Area.

We strongly recommend you obtain general guidelines about the passport, visa and animal health requirements you must comply with when entering your chosen destination country. For your own benefit, please ensure you find out about the existence and content of such requirements which could affect your trip at the time of booking. You are personally responsible for meeting any passport, visa and vaccination requirements as well as for carrying the necessary documents authorising your entry into your chosen country.

Air Passenger Rights

For anyone departing from a Swiss airport or returning from a third country (not EU, Norway or Iceland) with a Swiss or EU airline, the same passenger rights apply as those in the EU.

The National Enforcement Body for Passenger Rights is responsible for ensuring that the rights of passengers are duly complied with. The Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) monitors compliance with European Regulation (EC) 261/2004. This service is provided free of charge for passengers.

Preparation for your journey can start even before you book your ticket. The information below will enable you to anticipate the questions you may be asked when booking.

In order to benefit from a quality service, ensure you inform the airline or your travel agent of your specific assistance needs when making your booking or at least 48 hours prior to departure for both outbound and return flights.

TRAVELLING WITH YOUR OWN WHEELCHAIR

If you are travelling with your own wheelchair, you should inform the airline specifying the dimensions (height, width and weight). In addition, we recommend travelling with the user manual. If you are travelling with an electric wheelchair, , you should also inform the airline and advise of the type of battery. In addition, we recommend travelling with the user manual.

TRAVELLING WITH A GUIDE DOG

You should inform the airline in advance if you have a guide dog. Guide dogs generally travel for free in the cabin. Please ensure you find out about the entry regulations for dogs in your destination country from your travel agency or from the embassy of the country in question.

The airport restaurant

The restaurant at Sion Airport is the perfect spot in which to grab a coffee and watch what’s going on on the runway. While waiting for your flight, your children can enjoy our specially designed play area.
